OUR STORY

My name’s Ollie, I’m a beekeeper in Saltaire and with the help of my bees and my wife Abi, I make honey.

I’ve always loved honey, but for most of my life I’ve been more interested in eating it, than knowing much about where it came from.

My interest in keeping bees started while Abi and I were living out in New York. At the time of us moving out there, it was illegal to keep bees in the city of New York – this bizarre law meant that there was a secret underground beekeeping scene. I became fascinated with the idea of secret beekeepers hiding their hives up on the roof-tops.

After a year or two, the ban was eventually lifted, making beekeeping legal in New York. Unfortunately though, we weren’t able to keep a hive on our roof in Brooklyn, so I’d have to wait a bit longer before becoming a beekeeper myself.

Now we’re settled back in the UK, we’ve been fortunate enough to find a spot to keep some hives. After enrolling on a great course run by the Leeds Beekeeping Association, we’re happily keeping bees and making some delicious honey. Although we’re fairly new to the beekeeping game, we’re learning an enormous amount and having a lot of fun in the process.
