OUR BEES

Our bees are kept in hives nestled between the Leeds Liverpool canal and the River Aire. We’re lucky enough to be surrounded by woodlands, fields, glens and gardens – so our bees have plenty of places to forage for food. This amazing buffet of plants and flowers around the hives gives our honey a totally unique and delicious taste.

Although our bees have an amazing selection of places to find pollen right on their doorstep, during one day, one bee can fly within a 3 mile radius. So it’s possible that our honey contains pollen and nectar from anywhere within this yellow circle. Whether it’s from the flowers in your back garden or the heather on the moors – the pollen all gets collected and brought back to our hives.

During the height of summer, one hive will house around 50,000 bees – all working away being busy and productive. Over the winter months this number drops down to around 10,000. So we have to make sure that each winter we leave enough honey in the hive to keep the colony nice and strong, ready for work again in the spring.
